Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. School staff are in a position to identify concerns early, provide help for children, promote children’s welfare, prevent concerns from escalating, and educate children on how they can keep themselves and others safe.
All staff at the Academy are Level 2 Safeguarding trained. This training is at the start of the academic year and then for any new staff or those returning from leave. The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) and Deputy DSLs are Level 3 trained.
A copy of our Safeguarding Policy can be found in the policies section of the website.
DSLs:
Mrs Samantha Griffiths and Mrs Sarah Pennington-Chick
Deputy DSLs:
Mrs Gillian Halls and Mrs Fasna Naisan
Parents, contract workers and students can report safeguarding concerns directly to the DSL, Deputy DSLs and Safeguarding Team via safeguarding@castleviewacademy.org.uk
Staff use CPOMS to report safeguarding concerns which is monitored daily by the DSLs, Deputy DSL and Safeguarding Team. The DSL is also the PREVENT lead. Clare Sitch is the main point of contact for Looked After Children.
If you have serious concerns because you think that a child might be being abused (physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse or neglect) or at risk of radicalisation you should contact the Portsmouth Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 02392 688793/ 0845 671 0271
As a school we aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by:
- protecting children from maltreatment;
- preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
- ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care, and;
- taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS (previously CRB) check is required for all staff.
If you have any concerns about the safety of any child, please speak to a member of staff who you feel comfortable with. Alternatively, if your concerns are about the use of digital media, you can report incidents to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre.
